Private Equity

12.19.03 | On December 19, Veritas Software (NASDAQ:VRTS) announced it had acquired Jareva Technologies, a provider of server provisioning software, for approximately $62 million in cash. Jareva had raised $22 million to date and was backed by JK&B Capital III, an underlying fund in Fort Washington's Fund II.

11.23.03 | On November 24, 2003, Nexstar Broadcasting Group Inc. (NASDAQ:NXST) raised $140 million in an initial public offering. Nexstar is a television broadcasting company focused on operating television stations in medium-sized U.S. cities. Nexstar was backed by ABRY Partners, an underlying fund in Fort Washington's portfolio.

08.04.03 | On August 4, 2003, Genscape, Inc., a supplier of real-time power plant output and transmission information, announced that it had been acquired by an investor group led by GFI Energy Ventures. Louisville, Kentucky-based Genscape was backed by Chrysalis Ventures II, an underlying fund in Fort Washington's Fort Washington's Tri-State Growth Capital Fund.

07.24.03 | On July 24, 2003, iPass, Inc. (NASDAQ:IPAS) offered seven million shares to the public at a price of $14 per share. iPass provides secure corporate network access to mobile workers at large enterprises. iPass was backed by Meritech Capital Partners, an underlying fund in Fort Washington's Fund II.

07.18.03 | On July 18, 2003, French-owned software maker Business Objects (NSD:BOBJ) announced an agreement to acquire Crystal Decisions, a provider of enterprise reporting software, in a cash and stock deal worth an estimated $820 million. Crystal Decisions was acquired from Seagate Technology in 2000 by an investor group led by Silver Lake Partners, an underlying fund in Fort Washington's portfolio.

07.17.03 | On July 17, 2003, Sanmina-SCI Corporation (NASDAQ:SANM) announced a definitive agreement to acquire Newisys, Inc., a developer of enterprise-class servers. Newisys was backed by New Enterprise Associates X, an underlying fund in Fort Washington's Fund III.

07.10.03 | On July 10, 2003, Yell (LSE symbol YELL) floated shares on the London Stock exchange raising £1.14 billion in the largest-ever IPO of a private equity-backed business. Yell, a provider of classified directories, was acquired in a management buyout from British Telecom in the spring of 2001. Yell was backed by Apax Europe Partners V and Apax Excelsior VI, underlying funds in Fort Washington's Fund II and Fund III, respectively.

06.05.03 | Fort Washington Investment Advisors, Inc., announced today that Mr. Nicholas P. Sargen has joined the company as Chief Investment Officer on June 2. In this role, Mr. Sargen is responsible for overseeing the investment activity for all assets under management.

04.04.03 | On April 4, 2003, Network Associates (NYSE:NET) announced a definitive agreement to acquire Entercept Security Technologies, a provider of intrusion protection technology, for $120 million in cash. Entercept was backed by JK&B Capital III, an underlying fund in Fort Washington's Fund II.

04.01.03 | On April 1, 2003, Network Associates, Inc. (NYSE:NET) announced a definitive agreement to acquire IntruVert Networks, a provider of network-based intrusion protection technology, for $100 million in cash. Intruvert had raised $31 million to date and was backed by Worldview Technology Partners, an underlying fund in Fort Washington's Fund III.

03.19.03 | USA Interactive (NASDAQ:USAI) and Expedia, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXPE) announced an agreement by which USA would acquire the Expedia shares it does not currently own in a stock-for-stock transaction valued at $3.3 billion, based on the closing price of USA common stock on March 18, 2003. Expedia is a large investment of Technology Crossover Ventures IV, an underlying fund in Fort Washington's Fund II.
